Junior High School Teacher
St Laurent Academy is a dynamic and inspiring, JK to Grade 12, private school located in Ottawa, Ontario. We have and are continuing to grow, and are completing our first year at our new campus, in Rockcliffe, Ottawa. We are currently assessing our staffing needs for next year, and welcome applications from qualified teachers who have experience and/or are interested in working in Junior High (Grades 6 - 8), as a subject specialist in Math, English, French, Art, Social Studies, Science, Phys Ed, Music or Resource. We follow the Ontario curriculum, and are a ministry inspected school. We offer daily Phys Ed, a flourishing Arts program, and a supportive environment for our students. Our management team is highly involved and supportive of our teachers, with regular PD and opportunities for leadership throughout the department.
Job Type: Full Time.
Qualifications:
- Must be able to work in Ontario.
- Minimum of a B. Ed Degree.
- Ontario College of Teachers certification (or able to convert qualification to OCT).
- Excellent classroom management, organization, and planning skills.
- Familiarity with the Ontario curriculum.
- Excellent oral, written, communication, and presentation skills.
- Ability to differentiate instruction to meet the individual needs of each student.
- Work collaboratively with colleagues, administration and parents.
- Flexibility and creativity.
The following assets are preferred but not required:
- Ability to communicate in French.
- Experience in a private/independent school.
- Coaching and leadership experience (the Arts, Sports, Clubs, etc.).
- Ability to participate in school trips and adventurous outings.
- Ability to coach a team and/or run a specific specialized club in addition to the regular schedule, with additional remuneration provided.
Compensation and Benefits:
- Salary is commensurate with experience and role.
- Benefits include Group Health Insurance (after 6 months of employment).
- Self-Directed RRSP (with employer contribution after 6 month of employment).
- Additional week vacation during March/Spring Break (2 weeks), in addition to regular vacation time.
- 2 - 3 paid 4 day weekends (tied to stat holidays).
The school follows the traditional school year calendar from early September through late June.
